Not far from the hotels, bars and beaches of Sharm el Sheikh is Ras Mohamed National Park. The park is located at the very tip of the peninsula and offers views of the Gulf of Aqaba on one side and the Gulf of Suez on the other. Equally beautiful are the views beneath the gentle waves – this is one of the Red Sea Riviera’s most popular diving sites and just one peep under the water reveals why. It takes around 35 minutes to reach Ras Mohamed National Park by road from central Sharm.

Take a long but spectacular four-hour drive into the desert and mountains of Sinai, where St Catherine’s Monastery can be viewed and Mount Sinai can be climbed. Monks created nearly 4,000 “steps of penitence” to the peak of the mountain. Alternatively, camels offer rides along the modern path and will get you there without so much effort. The Bible states that this is where Moses received the 10 commandments. Leave early in the morning to create a tiring but fulfilling day trip. There are a few hotels around the area if you fancied an overnight stay in this mystical land.
