Packed with history and located in the beautiful South Pennine countryside, it is well worth visiting Burnley. Car rental will ensure you get to see all of the highlights.

Burnley is an old market town which dates back to 1294. During your stay, browse the market stalls where you can purchase a range of products from fruit and vegetables to clothes and jewellery...

History lovers will revel in Burnley's past. The Lancashire town is famous for the only remaining steam-driven weaving shed in the world. Queen Street Mill, built in 1894, is now a museum owned by the council and was used in a scene for Oscar winning film, The King's Speech, in 2010.

There are more historical sites to visit in Burnley, including Towneley Hall. Dating back to the 16th century, the hall is decorated with oil paintings and sculptures in each of its period rooms and was home to the Towneley family for nearly five centuries.

Next to the old hall is the Museum of Local History, which exhibits the stories of local Burnley people and is an interesting visit.

Both the hall and museum are situated in Towneley Park which is the largest in Burnley. It boasts wide-open spaces and is a great place to visit all year round. There is an opportunity to play golf, tennis and bowls, or take a walk through the woods and have fun taking part in the sculpture trail.

The 127-mile long Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes through Burnley and a taking a boat trip along it will guarantee beautiful views of the Pennines. Burnley also possesses charming reservoirs that are excellent for walkers. Cant Clough, Clowbridge, Colwell and Hurstwood are all reachable with your hire car and are a great way to enjoy the great outdoors.
