It's worth booking car hire in Rochdale, a market town in Greater Manchester, to make the most of your time in this part of England, where big cities, countryside pursuits and the region's proud heritage form terrific holiday memories.

Rochdale car rental will assist you in zipping around town at your own pace, as well as seeing nearby attractions...

Just minutes from the border with West Yorkshire, the town of Rochdale is in a prime position for making the most of the nearby countryside while offering urban amenities in both the town itself and the sprawling and vibrant city that is Manchester. Rochdale is just 10 miles to the north of Manchester, where world-class shopping meets excellent dining and wild nightlife.

Much like many other towns and cities in the north, Rochdale saw its fortunes fly high during the 19th century, with mills popping up all over the area to serve the demanding needs of the textile industry. Of course, much like those other places, the trade eventually declined. The Rochdale of today trades on being a welcoming and friendly place to live, work and play, with a host of attractions and ribbons of pretty countryside just minutes away.

The excellent Pioneers Museum showcases Rochdale's role as the birthplace of the co-operative movement and it is worth a look. You can also journey back in time alongside the Rochdale Canal, which has a number of pleasant walks along the water's edge. It runs in the south of town, while the rivers Roch and Spodden meet in the town centre.

Though it was canal transportation that helped Rochdale boom during the Industrial Revolution, the East Lancashire Railway draws visitors every weekend to see steam and diesel engines at work. Travel to nearby Heywood, a 10-minute drive from Rochdale, to see these hulking beasts pull away from the station or hop on one to admire the surrounding countryside and enjoy the kind of journey that time has almost forgotten.

It's wise to book car hire in advance to secure the best deals. You can compare prices when you use TravelSupermarket's search tool. Collect your vehicle at a convenient location in downtown Rochdale.
