With fast access into London and a hearty platter of culture on offer, the town of Woking, in the English county of Surrey, is a great base for holidays. Book car hire in Woking to take your time exploring the town and the wider area.

It's worth considering car rental; Woking and the nearby areas have much to offer to intrepid travellers...

Sitting just outside the M25 - the London Orbital motorway - and within half an hour of central London by train, Woking is a popular commuter town and it offers all the amenities that residents and visitors could want. However, with a long and fascinating history tucked under its belt, Woking showcases its heritage at a number of excellent attractions - so don't let the town's functionality fool you.

Swirling around a lovely new focal point called Jubilee Square, the centre of Woking is packed with tempting cafés and restaurants, shops, theatres, galleries and a couple of striking pieces of public art - including a seven-metre tall Martian. It makes perfect sense when you know that HG Wells wrote 'The War of the Worlds' in Woking, a story set in Surrey.

For more tales of fancy, book tickets to see performances at either the New Victoria Theatre or the Rhoda McGaw Theatre. The two sit side by side at the heart of town. The Lightbox gallery and museum is just across the road and home to a dazzling display of pieces from the art world, as well as exhibits that study Woking's past.

On the outskirts of town, around a five-minute drive from the centre of Woking, you'll find the remains of Woking Palace. Henry VIII was a frequent visitor during his reign, even honeymooning at the palace with one of his six wives. It's only open on select days throughout the year so check in advance if you hope to visit. A more recent architectural highlight comes in the exquisite form of the Shah Jahan Mosque. Built in 1889, it's the oldest in the UK.

It's easy to see the best of Woking when you arrange car rental. Book in advance to make big savings and then collect your vehicle at a handy downtown location in Woking. To find a great deal on car hire, use the search tool on TravelSupermarket.
