One of the sweetest (literally) city-break destinations in Europe and just a short hop from Scotland, the Austrian capital of Vienna is the perfect place for a getaway at any time of the year.

There are currently no direct flights to Vienna from Glasgow Airport (GLA), nor can you fly non-stop from nearby Glasgow Prestwick Airport. You can search for indirect flights from Glasgow Airport. On offer with British Airways, KLM and Air France, among others, average flight times are in the region of five hours.

For a cheap and fast option, look at direct flights to Vienna from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) with easyJet, which touch down in an average of two hours and 50 minutes. After all, the airports in Glasgow and Edinburgh are less than an hour apart by road so you will easily make up the driving time while in the air.

The second-busiest airport in Scotland (behind Edinburgh), Glasgow’s international air hub is located just a few miles west of the city centre and close to Paisley, in Renfrewshire. Nearly nine million passengers fly in and out of Glasgow’s two terminals each year.

Getting there is easy, whether you choose to take your own car or use public transport.

If you do opt to drive, be sure to book airport parking in advance of your trip to make significant savings.

Alternatively, arrive by bus (from Glasgow city centre take one of the airport shuttles) or take a train to either Paisley (Gilmour Street) or Glasgow Central and complete your journey by bus or taxi.
