Flights to St Vincent and the Grenadines

To reach paradise you have to work a little bit, with flights via other Caribbean islands from the UK.

British Airways has daily flights into Barbados, Saint Lucia and Antigua, with onward connections to the islands with Liat. You can also fly with Virgin Atlantic via the same islands and onwards with local carriers.

All direct flights to the gateway islands depart from London Gatwick, which has connections from several UK cities. The flight time from London is around 11 hours.

Another option is to fly via US gateways such as New York, Atlanta and Miami. The big US carriers take you to one of the main islands, and then you change plane to get to little St Vincent and beyond.

Located near Argyle on the main island of St Vincent, Argyle International Airport is about 5 miles from the capital of Kingstown and is well served by public transport and taxis. 

Some hotels on St Vincent include a shuttle service as part of your stay or offer to whisk you to your hotel for a small fee. This is the preferred option for most visitors.

Alternatively, there are plenty of taxis. A fare to Kingstown should cost around 30 East Caribbean dollars (about £6.50).

Car hire is another option, and you can collect your vehicle at the airport to save on the cost of resort transfers.

From St Vincent’s airport you can also fly to the other main islands of St Vincent and the Grenadines, with connections to the airports of Canouan (CIW), Bequia (BQU), Mustique (MQS), and Union Island (UNI). Ferry services to these destinations are also available from Kingstown.

The capital of St Vincent is Kingstown, a city distinguished by its superb botanical gardens. A lively but relaxed place, the British colonial influence can be detected by a keen eye in the cobblestone streets and other architecture. There’s also a French colonial history here.

The very rich are drawn to Mustique, where renting a holiday home can cost more than a sports car. You can find more affordable, and equally as beautiful, holiday homes on islands such as Bequia though. Canouan and Union Island are other possible destinations and were once the haunt of pirates. It’s still easy to imagine a sailing ship coming into view with the Jolly Roger flying once you are on one of the islands' evocative beaches.
