Egypt is easily reached from the UK, with a relatively short flight time of just over five hours. Direct routes are available from London, Manchester and Birmingham, but most flights from other regional airports involve at least one stop.
The main international airports in Egypt are Cairo (CAI), Luxor (LXR), Hurghada (HRG), Marsa Alam (RMF), Aswan (ASW) and, to a lesser extent, Borg El Arab (HBE) in Alexandria.
Most flights to the Red Sea resorts are charter flights which are operated by package tour companies. For those wishing to go to Sharm el-Sheikh, direct charter flights from the UK are set to resume in December 2019, ending a four-year ban that followed the 2015 terrorist bombing of a Russian passenger plane. The first weekly flights to Sharm el-Sheikh will depart from Gatwick. Remember, always take the FCO’s latest advice into consideration.
