As the resort is now home to many international hotels, the easiest way to get from the airport to your accommodation is to arrange a transfer with your hotel prior to departure.

However, it is possible to take one of the public buses that leave from the airport - they are cheap but often very packed.

If you have baggage and children, we recommend you take a convenient taxi - the airport has a rank just outside.

Sharm el Sheik is noted for its excellent hotels with their modern facilities and grand designs; from families to young couples, there's something for every taste...

Sharm el Sheik is actually a very compact destination, with one main road lined with a range of luxury, five-star resort villages - with very impressive entrances - to smaller but equally smart budget hotels.

Where to stay is often a simple question of budget and noise! Staying close to the nightlife and bazaars of the town to the west is handy for younger travellers and families who want to shop and head to the waterpark.

Water sport lovers, scuba divers and sailing fans prefer to stay in the east near Ras Mohammed, a national park at the southern end of the Sinai Peninsula, and Nabq - both have well known dive sites.

More centrally, but to the east of the busy centre, you will find quieter but luxurious hotels and private rentals that look out on to the shorelines from the pretty promenade.

Cheaper hotels are set back behind these but expect to have to cross the busy main road which has traffic day and night and is not ideal for families with young children, who may prefer to stick to the promenade hotels.

Accommodation is mainly all-inclusive at the larger resort hotels with excellent buffet meals and superb service. Competition among the hotels is strong and staff will work very hard to ensure you are satisfied with your experience.
