Finally, Nice has excellent rail links. Eurostar has up to four daily services to Nice Ville during summer, departing from London St Pancras and involving a quick change in Paris from Gare du Nord to Gare du Lyon. The total journey time is nine hours and 16 minutes. It’s a scenic route, taking in the sweeping Rhone Valley, Avignon’s Roman remains and many a Mediterranean bay.

If you want to break the journey in Paris for longer, there are typically eight high-speed TGV trains per day from Gare du Lyon to Nice Ville, plus a romantic sleeper service. All take around five and a half hours.
