Mytilene airport is located in the east of this unusually shaped island. It can take around two hours to reach the western areas by road, so be aware of distances when it comes to organising your transport. A taxi, for example, might be very expensive from the airport if you’re staying in the resort of Skala Eresou, which is in the west.

Car hire is a good option if you can’t find any reasonably priced hotel transfers. You can collect your pre-booked vehicle from the airport and drive yourself to your hotel. Getting around Lesbos is easy.

There’s a good network of local buses on the island, which run between the bigger villages. Taxis are available for transfers from the airport into the town, as well as for excursions. The town of Mytilene is a 30-minute drive from the airport, so even if you’re staying here you might want to consider renting a car in Lesbos.
