One of the most enticing aspects of a trip to Dublin is that you can arrive in the city in just over an hour. Whether you’re flying from Edinburgh, London or Manchester, it’s just a short hop over the Irish Sea. The number of daily flights and range of locations make it unlikely that you’ll need to make a connection if you’re flying from the UK to Dublin.

Dublin Airport, situated to the north of the city, is Dublin's only public airport and has good onward travel options. Multiple bus companies serve the airport, while taxis provide door-to-door service (at a higher cost, of course). Several car rental operators, including Hertz, Enterprise and Avis, offer car hire, which is a good option for those planning to explore beyond the city.

You could spend your entire trip in Dublin's gorgeous, historic centre, but it's surprisingly easy to get out into the country. To make the most of your time in Dublin, we suggest doing a bit of both. Start in the heart of the city, taking in sights such as Trinity College – where you can see the magnificent illuminated Book of Kells – and Temple Bar, whose cobbled streets harbour some of Dublin's best pubs. Spend your evening north of the Liffey River around O’Connell Street, the city’s theatre district.

If you've hired a car, it's time to get out and see the rest of the region. The Wicklow Mountains National Park are around an hour's drive from the city centre, but feel like another world, with rolling hills, rocky peaks and glassy lakes.
