It’s not difficult to find cheap flights to Malta, with a number of airlines flying direct from the UK to Malta International Airport. As with other destinations in the Mediterranean, Malta is particularly popular with Brits during the summer months, and it’s at this time that you’ll find the greatest choice of flights.

The small island sits to the south of Sicily and to the east of Tunisia – its location between Europe and Africa has given it a unique culture, with Middle Eastern-influenced food and language, and a rich maritime history.

Most British visitors to Malta will fly during the summer months, and, as is often the case, flights tend to be more expensive during this period, particularly during the school holidays in July and August. However, there is a fair amount of competition on the route, with low-cost airlines in the market too – so it's still possible to find good deals, even in summer. Low-cost airlines with flights to Malta include Wizz Air, easyJet, Jet2 and Vueling.

If you’re not restricted to travelling in the summer, consider visiting in April or May, when it is quieter but still warm and sunny, and the countryside is lush and green. Malta's atmospheric capital Valletta is also a great destination for a quick city break, so if that's your plan, consider packing everything in hand luggage to save money on checked baggage fees.
