Flights to Netherlands

With thousands flying weekly into the Netherlands from the UK there is no shortage of flight options...

KLM has the widest choice of departure points, flying daily into Amsterdam from London’s Heathrow and City airports, as well as from Manchester, Bristol, Norwich, Newcastle, Southampton, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Jersey, Guernsey, Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Inverness, Humberside, Isle of Man, Durham and Exeter.

Easyjet also flies from many airports, as does British Airways from London Heathrow and City and Jet2 from several northern and Scottish airports. Flights take from one to two hours.

You can also fly to Rotterdam from London and Manchester with KLM, and to Eindhoven from Manchester and Stansted with Ryanair.

To get into the Dutch capital from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, you can take the train or a bus, hire a cab or collect a rental car. Many hotels in the city also offer shuttle services.

Trains are fast and inexpensive; check where your hotel is in relation to Centraal Station, though. It’s a 25-minute drive between the airport and the city centre. A taxi will get you door to door, but fares can be upwards of €35 (£28).

Amsterdam's public transport network is fast and efficient. Beyond the capital, Haarlem, Delft, Den Haag and Leiden will allow you to experience Dutch culture with less of the tourist presence of Amsterdam itself. You might also want to visit the superb beachfronts along the North Sea.

To get out of the cities and explore, hiring a car is a good option, especially if you want to travel to neighbouring countries Germany and Belgium. Netherlands flights are an excellent point of entry for extended European tours and you can organise everything with the airports in advance.

Amsterdam is, of course, the star turn on the tourism scene. During the day, enjoy the canal and cafe culture and watch the world go by while enjoying a drink or meal at one of the many canal side establishments. You’ll not be able to resist sampling some of the country's fine cheese or smoked and pickled fish.

The rich history of Amsterdam is celebrated everywhere, so no matter where in the city you end up you’ll find something of interest. Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum are must-sees for art and history buffs, while the townhouses and Oude Kerk are vital viewing for anyone interested in architecture.

Hotels are in abundance in Amsterdam, though it can be hard to find a really great, centrally located budget hotel. Room sizes can be small, too, in the historic canal-side gabled houses in which many hotels are housed. Look for hotels in the areas in and around Grachtengordel, Centraal Station, Museumplein and the Vondelpark for easy access to the main attractions.

City hotels are of a similar standard across the Netherlands. Wherever you go, it’s wise to book in advance to secure the best deals, especially if you plan to travel during the busy months of summer. Spring and autumn are good times to look for hotel bargains.
