Oslo flights are available with SAS, the Scandinavian flag carrier, from Manchester, Heathrow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, with Norwegian flying from Gatwick, Manchester and Edinburgh and British Airways from Heathrow.

Ryanair also operates to airports in the vicinity, such as Rygge from Manchester, Edinburgh and Stansted and Torp from Stansted and Liverpool.

Additionally, you can connect to Oslo via Paris, Amsterdam and various German airports with Air France, KLM and Lufthansa respectively.

Getting around Oslo is easy thanks to a well-developed public transport system with trams, trains and tubes to all areas of the city.

Oslo Airport (also known as Oslo Airport, Gardermoen) is the main gateway into Norway for international visitors, as well as being the hub for most domestic travel in Norway. Accordingly, the airport is well connected to the city by various means of transport.

Oslo Airport, Gardermoen is served by a high-speed rail link, and there are standard rail network connections to the other two Oslo airports at Rygge and Torp.

The Flytoget Airport Express Train runs every 10-20 minutes from Oslo Airport, Gardermoen with a journey time to Oslo of 19 minutes. A one-way ticket costs 170 Norwegian krone (around £16) so it’s not a cheap option.

Slightly slower local trains cost around half the price but will still have you in Oslo in about half an hour. Normal shuttle and express shuttle buses also run regularly from the airport, getting you into Oslo in around 40 minutes and saving you a few krone. You can expect to pay around 300 krone for a taxi for up to four people between Oslo Airport and central Oslo.

Moss Airport, Rygge, is also handy for Oslo. Bus and train services take around an hour from here to the centre of Oslo.

Sandefjord Airport, Torp, is not the most convenient of airports for Oslo. It’s located more than 60 miles to the south of the city; bus and train services take around two hours to reach central Oslo.

Car hire in Oslo is a wise investment. Taxis can be expensive and having a car offers the freedom to tour Norway at your leisure.
