Qatar Airways operates daily non-stop flights to Doha from several UK airports, making this an accessible country...

Along with its oneworld partner British Airways, Qatar Airways has multiple daily services from London Heathrow including one business class-only flight. Qatar also operates daily non-stop services from Manchester and Edinburgh.

Turkish Airlines also flies to Doha via Istanbul from London, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh. KLM flies via Amsterdam from many UK departure points, as does Lufthansa via Frankfurt.

Additional connections include Emirates, Etihad and Gulf Air flying through their Middle Eastern bases.  Connecting flights take at least two hours longer than non-stop flights.

Visitors are most likely to arrive at Doha’s Hamad International Airport, which opened in 2014.

Qatar has a wonderful line up of luxury hotels and five-star resorts, most of which will provide private or shared transport to and from the airport.

If this isn’t an option, you can jump in a taxi at the airport. Taxis only take cash payments of Qatari riyals so make sure you’ve collected your currency in advance. Chauffeur-driven limousines can also be booked from the airport to any destination – a fine way to begin your stylish sojourn in the sun.

A couple of bus routes ferry passengers between the airport and central destinations in Doha. You’ll need to purchase a Karwa Smartcard from the driver. It costs only a couple of pounds for a card that entitles you to two trips within a 24-hour period, or a little extra for unlimited bus travel for 24 hours.

Many visitors book car hire in Qatar and collect the vehicle at the airport to save on the cost of hotel transfers. Having a car is a good investment in Qatar as there’s plenty to see and do around the country.

At the beaches of Doha and elsewhere around the Qatari coastline, activities such as kite-surfing, jet-skiing, scuba diving and surfing provide endless hours of enjoyment, while the nation’s interior dishes up thrills on the desert dunes and gentler pleasures on the many golf courses. More electrifying action can be found at Qatar’s horse-racing circuits. Other tourism highlights include the ancient Fort Zubarah, which is a two-hour journey by road from Doha.
