With a flying time of around three hours on non-stop flights and four hours upwards on connecting flights, you will soon be touching down in this fascinating, eastern European country.

Flights from London to the capital Bucharest (OTP) are available with British Airways and Tarom daily from Heathrow, while Wizz and Blue Air fly from Luton and Ryanair operates services from Stansted. There are more non-stop flights to the city from Birmingham, Doncaster and Glasgow with Wizz, as well as Blue Air flights from Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow. Air France, KLM, Swiss and Lufthansa also offer connecting flights to the Romanian capital from around the UK.

Timisoara (TSR) flights depart from Stansted with Ryanair or Luton with Wizz. Connections via Bucharest with Tarom or Wizzair or on Lufthansa via Munich or Frankfurt are also available.

Wizz has additional flights to Cluj (CLJ) from Luton and Doncaster, while from Luton it also flies to Tirgu Mures (TGM), often known as Transylvania Airport, Iasi (IAS), Craiova (CRA) and Constanta (CND). These airports can also be reached on connecting services via Bucharest with Tarom or Wizzair.

You won’t want to waste a moment after touching down on flights to Romania.  

Several million passengers arrive at Henri Coanda International Airport (OTP) each year, eager to reach the sights and sounds (and bars) of Bucharest. Two express bus services (one to the city centre, one to the central railway station) run frequently from the airport. A single ticket costs three-and-a-half Romanian lei (about 60 pence) and the journey time is 45 minutes. Alternatively, take the shuttle bus from arrivals to the nearby railway station and hop on a train to the city. A ticket costs less than seven lei. A taxi journey can cost between 20 and 50 lei (roughly between £3.50 and £8.50), depending on final destination and traffic. Licensed taxis are bound by rulings on maximum costs, so don’t worry about being ripped off if you use an official cab.

At Cluj-Napoca Airport (sometimes also known as Avram Iancu airport; CLJ), the nation’s second busiest, bus and taxi services are also available.
