Flights to Canary Islands

The main Canary Islands consist of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, La Palma and La Gomera. Four of these islands have airports: Las Palmas (LPA) on Gran Canaria, Lanzarote (ACE) and La Palma (SPC). Tenerife has two airports: North (TFN) and South (TFS). Choosing which airport is most suitable usually comes down to finding the one nearest to your final destination but whichever you choose, you'll find a large variety of Canary Islands flights available. Travelling to some of the smaller islands such as La Gomera and El Hieroo is easy thanks to a large network of boats and ferries.

Popular all year round, the fact that the Canaries offer guaranteed winter sun just a few hours from the UK mean that prices tend to rise both during the peak summer and peak winter season. You'll want to find the quickest and easiest way to get from the airport to your accommodation. Here are your options...

If you are flying into Tenerife, you will be able to get a public bus to many areas of the island. You can opt to pay for your journey once you board the bus. Alternatively, a taxi rank is located on the ground floor of the arrivals hall, outside the terminal exit.

For those landing in Fuerteventura, if you want to travel via public transport, there is also a good bus service travelling to many of the popular resorts. Alternatively, taxis are available from the rank on the ground floor near to arrivals. If you want to travel around on your own steam, you may wish to consider car hire.

Visitors to Lanzarote can take the route 22 bus to the island's capital in just 10 minutes. It stops at terminal one and two on the ground floor at arrivals. Route 23 goes to Playa Honda and route 161 goes to Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen. You can also get taxis from outside arrivals if you would prefer a more comfortable transfer.

If Gran Canaria is your port of call, then you can get bus route 60 to the capital, route 66 to Maspalomas and route 90 to Telde. There are also a variety of other routes to the main tourist areas. Taxis can be taken from the ground floor near to arrivals.

Tenerife is the largest of the islands and holidays here are all about sun, sea and relaxing on the fabulous beaches. However, the more active members of your party can be kept entertained with outdoor activities such as hiking in Teide National Park, watersports and golf. The kids will have plenty to keep them busy too, with attractions such as Siam Park on offer.

Fuerteventura is a more laidback island where you can choose to either get away from it all or enjoy attractions with the kids such as waterparks. Corralejo is another option where beach lovers will enjoy the unspoilt coastline and the variety of nightlife on offer, whether you're looking for a quiet and peaceful meal while watching the sun go down or you're looking to hit the dance floor and show off your moves.

Sporty types may like to book accommodation in Lanzarote. Here you can enjoy diving, hiking and mountain biking as well as visiting natural attractions such as Timanfaya National Park. Great beaches are in abundance and you will also find a good variety of nightlife here.

Gran Canaria is another popular island where you may wish to book accommodation. Resorts such as Playa del Ingles cater for the party crowd while resorts such as San Augustin and Maspalomas are more laidback. The fabulous sand dunes at the latter are certainly worth visiting.
