For international services Ryanair, easyJet and British Airways are the largest operators to Europe along with leisure companies such as TUI and Jet2. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic also have extensive long haul services into London and Manchester.

You won’t have any problems getting to and from the airport, wherever you touch down in England. Planning onward travel in advance is the best way to save time once you’ve arrived with your luggage and an appetite to see the sights.

Local bus services are one of the cheapest methods of getting from airport to destination, though you obviously can’t travel door to door. If you want the convenience of leaving the airport terminal and being whisked straight to your hotel, you can either pay for a taxi or use a hotel shuttle service, if your accommodation provider offers such a facility. Taxi rates are on a par with destinations in Europe and most airport taxis use meters to calculate the final fare. Many taxis in England accept credit or debit cards, too, so look out for this facility if you don’t have British pounds to hand. 

The major airports have railway stations. Using the train is a fast way to get around; save money on tickets by booking in advance. 

Car hire in England is a popular option with overseas visitors. Unless you plan to see the central sights in London only, having a car gives you the freedom to experience so much more, whether you fancy a day at the beach, the races or a spa, or any other dream day you could imagine.
