Newcastle Airport is a 15-minute drive north-west from the city centre. There are plenty of transport options between the airport and the city.

Use the excellent bus service, hop on the metro, take the train, hire a taxi or book car rental to get into Newcastle.

There are many bus services running between the city and the airport terminals. This is a cheap option, though not the fastest route. For speed you could hire a taxi from the airport rank to get to your final destination. It’s not the cheapest option, however – expect to pay around £20 for a 15-minute journey.

A good compromise on cost and time is the metro. The light rail system runs between 60 stations in and around Newcastle and is an outstanding method of transport. There’s a station at the airport, and you can reach central stations in around 25 minutes; trains run every 12 minutes from early in the morning to late at night to Haymarket, Monument or Central stations in Newcastle and to the metro station in Sunderland. Tickets cost a few pounds per person.

If you plan to see more than just the compact centre of Newcastle, rent a car and collect it at Newcastle airport. As well as giving you the freedom to explore, hiring a car also saves on the extra cost of getting into the city.
