Glasgow Airport serves numerous international destinations, including European hotspots such as Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Ibiza and Malaga. You can also fly direct to North American cities such as New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.

The city’s second airport, Glasgow Prestwick (PIK) offers cheap flights from Glasgow to European destinations including Rome, Barcelona, Palma, Lanzarote, Malaga, Pisa and Corfu.

Glasgow is well served by the UK rail network and a train from London will take you around five hours – services from London Euston run every 40 minutes. Trains from Manchester take about three hours and from Birmingham around four hours.

If you’re short on time but still want to travel to Glasgow from London by train, you can travel overnight on the Caledonian Sleeper; surely the most romantic (though not the cheapest) option. Sleeper trains run from London Euston to Glasgow Central Station every night of the week, apart from Saturday.

It is easy to drive to Glasgow from anywhere in the UK, although a road trip from London will take you between six to eight hours.

If you come from the south, the quickest route is up the M6 motorway, which passes through Birmingham and Preston before grazing the easternmost reaches of the Lake District National Park as you head north. Once you get to Carlisle, Glasgow is around an hour and a half’s drive away.

If you’re driving from the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, the trip should only take around an hour – good news if you’re keen to see both cities on a short break.
