Being close to the Equator and in the Caribbean, Tobago enjoys a tropical climate characterised by long spells of hot weather and short periods of heavy rain. The average daytime temperature is around 25C, with peaks of 30C. However, January to May offer the best of the weather, with slightly milder but drier conditions.

Cheap holidays to Tobago can be found for travel throughout the year. Look for deals at either side of the driest season, when rainfall is less likely than in the wet season but when holiday prices can be lower than average.

Carnival; February: The island's main event is a feast of colour as people take to the streets and beaches for a giant party. Vibrant parades are quickly followed by music, food, drink and dance.

Heritage Festival, Tobago; July: Each July, every town and village in Tobago represents the island's diverse and tangled history in its own unique way. Each one is different, although lashings of rum and food feature at every single one.

Diwali; October: In the 19th century, a large contingent of migrants from East India brought several Hindu traditions to Tobago. One of them was Diwali, the spectacular festival of lights.
