Independence Day; March: The Greek nation takes the day/weekend off every March 25 to celebrate Greek National Day, which marks the start of the War of Greek Independence in 1821. Similar celebrations break out on April 1 for Greek Cypriot Day.

Water Festival; June: The Kataklysmos festival takes place every year to mark a story from Greek mythology in which all living things – except one couple – were wiped out by floods. Nowadays the festival is a great excuse for a five-day party that involves concerts, arts performances and plenty of feasting.
