Why go to Naama Bay

Naama Bay is a popular beach resort in the Sharm el Sheikh area of Egypt. It sits on the Red Sea at the south-eastern tip of the Sinai Peninsula and enjoys sunshine all year round. Holidays to Naama Bay offer sun, sand and plenty of attractions.

Egyptian tradition and modern ways mix well during holidays in Naama Bay...

Naama Bay offers a whole range of accommodation, including plenty of good, cheap hotels. This makes the resort a value for money choice for families, couples and solo travellers. Tourists from most European cities arrive at Sharm Airport (SSH), after a flight of up to five hours. The airport is a 20-minute drive from Naama Bay.

A seafront walkway covers the whole sweep of the bay. The resort has traditional markets as well as contemporary boutiques and is known for its lively nightlife. Enjoy an invigorating massage and a relaxing Turkish bath at the Oriental Spa and Hamman.

The Red Sea is one of the best places in the world for diving and snorkelling. Spectacular coral reefs and exotic marine life make the Naama Bay area one of the best diving sites anywhere. One prime diving location is the sea off the Ras Mohamed National Park where coral reefs reach a height of 800 feet. The park itself includes Sanafir and Tiran Islands, underwater caves, inland mountains and coastal plains and mudflats that are destinations for migrating birds.

Another diving site is close to the quiet area of Nabq Bay, a half hour's drive from Naama Bay with views over Tiran Island. The Nabq Protected Area is 375 square miles of land and sea with coral reefs, mangroves, dunes and wildlife. As an alternative to diving, glass-bottom boat trips offer views of the coral reefs.

Mount Sinai, where, according to biblical tradition, Moses received the 10 commandments, is three hours' drive from Naama Bay. St Catherine's Monastery, which stands at the foot of the mountain, has one of the world's most magnificent collections of Byzantine mosaics and icons.

Sharm’s residents celebrate religious festivals such as the Islamic New Year and Ramadan, as well as Easter and Coptic Christmas in January.
