Laganas is most definitely where the party is at on the gorgeous Greek island of Zante. The island's most buzzing nightspot, you can't go wrong with a break in the lively resort of Laganas if your holiday wish-list includes nights filled with bars, clubs, pubs and days of snoozing on the sand.

The Ionian Sea crawls lazily on to the five-mile stretch of soft sands in Laganas, where you'll find people sprawled when the sun shines. When the sun goes down, however, the resort springs into life, with throngs of young people keeping the after-hours fun going round the clock.

Located on the south coast of Zante (also known as Zakynthos), Laganas is undoubtedly a party town – you only need to see the mile-long Strip that draws those looking to dance the night away to understand why it’s so popular with younger holidaymakers. But couples and families who like a side dish of music alongside their break might be interested in a stay at the neighbouring resorts of Lithakia or Kalamaki. Both are quiet, traditional and sophisticated, but close enough for an evening stroll into Laganas.

The hot summer months are when the hordes of party people (as well as the turtles) descend on Laganas. Average temperatures peak at about 28C in July and August.

Late spring and early autumn, meanwhile, enjoy temperatures in the low 20s and fewer crowds. Although cooler, this would be a good time to search for cheap holidays to Laganas.

Carnival; February: There isn't a big events calendar in Laganas, but if you find yourself in Zante at the end of winter you should travel to Zante Town to see its two-week carnival.

Laganas Flair Open; July/August: Watch some of the best cocktail makers around shake up the simple task of pouring a drink during this annual event, which is lots of fun.

Wine Feast Festival; August-September: Head to the nearby capital of Zante Town/Zakynthos to sip some of the best of the local harvest at this popular festival.
