Top all-inclusive resort towns in the Maldives

One of the most charming things about the Maldives is that many of its resorts sit on their own private island, each with all the luxurious amenities and facilities you’d expect. Here’s a breakdown of some of the atolls (islands and islet groups) and the kind of all-inclusive experience each one offers.

North Malé Atoll

North Malé Atoll is one of the most popular atolls in the Maldives, with its hotels all reachable by boat from the capital Malé’s international airport. There’s a good mix of properties, from high-end all-inclusives to affordable guesthouses.

Ari Atoll

Another popular area with a range of all-inclusive resorts, Ari Atoll is one of the largest atolls in the Maldives. It’s a particularly great destination for diving and has some excellent ‘house reefs’ that you can swim to straight from the resort’s beach.

Lhaviyani Atoll

Another top pick for diving, Lhaviyani Atoll is home to luxury all-inclusive hotels, including the adults-only Hurawalhi Island Resort with its famous undersea restaurant. Others feature overwater villas and beachfront bungalows.

Baa Atoll

A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Baa Atoll is known for its gatherings of whale sharks and manta rays. You’ll find eco-friendly all-inclusive resorts here as well as hotels offering glamping bubble pods and traditional Maldivian medicine-based spa treatments.

All-inclusive holidays for families in the Maldives

Families are well-catered to in the Maldives, with many all-inclusive resorts in this bucket list destination providing babysitting services, child-friendly menus, kids’ clubs, activities and more.

North Malé Atoll is a great choice for families, with all-inclusive resorts here some of the easiest and cheapest to reach from Malé international airport, which is on the atoll.

Spend the day kayaking and snorkelling together in the crystal-clear waters around the resort, before enjoying a delicious buffet lunch. And when you want some me-time, let the kids’ club take care of the little ones for an afternoon while you enjoy a leisurely couple of hours around the pool or in the spa.

You can also expect water slides and playgrounds for children, windsurfing and scuba diving for teenagers, and bicycles for all – perfect for peddling around the island to explore beaches and find snorkelling sites.

If your kids are comfortable in the water, consider a stay in Baa Atoll to really embrace life by the ocean. Speak to a member of staff at your all-inclusive resort to organise a snorkelling trip. The kids can also learn about the ocean and conservation efforts from in-house marine biologists.

All-inclusive holidays for couples in the Maldives

Perfect for celebrating honeymoons, anniversaries and special occasions, or simply for reconnecting with your other half, the Maldives’ all-inclusive resorts are designed to provide unforgettable memories for sweethearts.

While there isn’t a specific area that’s best for couples, it’s worth searching for adults-only resorts, which you’ll find in the Lhaviyani and Malé atolls among others.

Most atolls feature all-inclusive resorts, with overwater bungalows perhaps the most desirable form of accommodation. Jump from your deck into the brilliant azure sea for a snorkel or a swim along the house reef, before requesting a floating breakfast in your private pool. Then head out on a diving trip to discover the Indian Ocean’s marine wildlife, or sign up to a dolphin-watching cruise at sunset.

If you prefer to stay in your resort and do very little, why not book a couples massage in your resort’s spa or spend hours luxuriating in your private poolside cabana?

In an incredibly romantic setting, and with a range of cuisines to choose from at your all-inclusive resort – think sushi one night, Italian the next — every dinner becomes a special date night. End a beautiful evening stargazing together on your deck with a drink.
