Just like much of the rest of this sensational coastline, Kalkan sizzles in summer with average daily temperatures of 30-35C in June, July and August. April and May are also pleasant months in which to visit, with warm days of around 20-25C, while September and October remain hot enough for dips in the sun-warmed sea.

Lycian Food festival; June: A newcomer to the social scene, this event celebrates local produce and showcases the talents of dancers and musicians. Kalkan’s reputation for fine cuisine is enhanced by this exciting foodie event.

Festival of the Sea; July: An entire day of sea-based fun gets visitors and locals alike in their swimwear. See swimming contests, boat races, water sports, and – most amusing of all – competitors trying to grab a flag from the end of an oily pole.

Kas Friday Market; weekly: The pretty town of Kas is a 25-minute trip by road from Kalkan. It’s worth visiting on a Friday, when market stalls line the streets and vendors ply a huge variety of goods including arts, crafts, vegetables and souvenirs.
