For those who like their clubbing with a side of culture, the capital, Ibiza Town, is an obvious choice.

Located on the south-west coast, Ibiza Town manages to combine the many different facets of the Ibizan experience. You can peer into the island's past with a walk around the 16th-century walls of the Dalt Vila, mingle with the yacht-owning set at cafés and restaurants near the Botafoch and Ibiza Nueva marinas, and survey Ibizan art at the Museu d'Art Contemporani.

Warm up for the evening with a drink in the port area before hitting up Pacha, one of the most iconic clubbing venues on the island. Bear in mind that budget stays are a little harder to find here, though there are some solid cheap hotels in Ibiza Port.

Just a 10-minute drive north of Ibiza Town is Cala Llonga, where everything, including the gently-sloping main beach, seems designed with families in mind.

Slightly further north is Santa Eulalia. It’s another popular resort for parents and their mini-mes, with plenty of affordable three-star and four-star family Ibiza hotels, a broad beach, water sports aplenty, a pretty marina and a cluster of decent restaurants. The clubs may feel a million miles away from here, but they aren’t. If you manage to find a babysitter, you can nip over to the bars of the capital in 20 minutes or so.

If relaxing is your number one goal, you're going to want to head up north to smaller villages such as San Miguel, where the swarms of holidaymakers dwindle and the luxury hotels in Ibiza hide. Here, an international creative crowd quietly while away their days swimming and sipping cocktails in stylish four- and five-star Ibiza hotels and premium agroturismos.

If you are craving an Ibiza hotel that is truly away from it all, head up to the rugged northern reaches of Santa Agnes valley. Here, among the rust-coloured soil and citrus- and pine-scented air, are a smattering of isolated, rural Ibiza resorts, such as the ivy-clad cliff-top hotel of Hacienda Na Xamena, which offer more solitude and peace than you probably ever dreamed possible in Ibiza.
