There are two main areas to consider when looking for a hotel in Alcudia: the old town and Puerto Alcudia. The old town is two kilometres inland from the port, and just a short drive or bus ride to the beach. It charms with medieval gates, small but buzzing restaurants and an arty village air. Hotels in Alcudia old town range from traditional B&Bs to chic, luxury boutique-style accommodation.

Puerto Alcudia, meanwhile, is the place to look for cheap hotels in Alcudia.  Sprawling resorts dotted by freeform swimming pools and lush palm trees are commonplace here, with a good selection of every other kind of accommodation by the sea, from basic self-catering apartments to five-star spa and golf hotels.

Restaurants, cafes, bars and shops also line the lovely beach that runs along the shore to C’an Picafort. But if you want to be close to the marina, use our map view to pinpoint the perfect location, as it can take an hour to walk between the port and some of the more southerly Alcudia hotels. Top five attractions

Tour the old town

Use your hire car or catch a local bus to see the old town, which dances to a very different beat to its beachside neighbour. It’s busiest on Tuesdays and Sundays, when the local market lures shoppers and browsing tourists alike.

S’Albufera Wetlands

One of the most important areas in the Balearic Islands in terms of ecology and biodiversity, the marshes, lakes and dunes of this natural park are full of life. Tour the area via the trails, marvel at the birdlife and enjoy the surprising splendour of wetland Majorca.

Hidropark

Not as spectacular as some of the other water parks on Majorca, Hidropark is nonetheless cheap and convenient for visitors to Alcudia. There’s plenty of fun to be had, including fast water slides for older kids and grownups and a mini water park for little ones.

Nightlife

Alcudia is fairly low key, but a handful of bars and clubs keep night owls happy. Head for the areas around Carrer Astoria and Av Pere Mas i Reus for late-night drinks, dancing and a spot of karaoke.

Platja des Coll Baix

One for romantic hikers! This remote bay is a true beauty, but to get there you will have to take a 30-minute car journey followed by a decent walk. Pack a picnic and take your time to savour this hidden gem of Majorca.

Cuttlefish and Nautical Fair; April: Celebrate the humble cuttlefish (known as sepia) during your springtime holiday. Craft markets, boat shows and live music are the side dishes to the seafood main course.

Sant Jaume Fiesta; July: The patron saint of Alcudia, Sant Jaume is honoured in the best possible way – with music, singing, dancing, drinking, theatre and fireworks.

Alcudia Jazz Festival; August-September: Anywhere that’s anywhere has a jazz festival and this one is turning into something of a classic. Resist that smooth beat if you dare, but Saturdays in September are all about jazz.
