Pick the Alton Towers Hotel or book rooms at Splash Landings Hotel - either way you'll get priority access to the park (an hour before non-hotel guests), free parking, plus evening entertainment at the hotel and easy access to the Spa, Waterpark and Extraordinary Golf - a crazy golf course designed around the theme park. 

The two resort hotels are very different. Alton Towers Hotel is perfect for little explorers and adventurers, with its theme of earth and space voyages, while Splash Landings Hotel features a Caribbean theme and overlooks the Waterpark. Guests of either hotel can also eat and drink in any of the resort's restaurants and bars.

It's a 15-minute walk or a short monorail ride from the hotels to the theme park. While the park opens from March to November, some rides and attractions are open for the Christmas season.

The hotels at Alton Towers can be very expensive, especially during school holidays. Visit during term time for cheaper rates.

As well as the two resort hotels, there are a number of independent hotels in the area surrounding the Alton Towers resort, from budget hotels and guesthouses to luxury hotels encircled by acres of lovely English countryside (and a few golf courses too). The nearest city is Stoke-on-Trent, which is half an hour away; there you'll find an even larger selection of hotels and fast access to the M6 motorway.

Alton Towers Theme Park

Britain's most popular theme park and the ninth most-visited in Europe. There are dozens of rides and attractions and something for all ages to enjoy.

Waterpark

Families love to splash about in the resort's waterpark. There are indoor and outdoor rides, plus slides and pools here, though the outdoor attractions close on weekdays in winter.

Alton Towers Spa

Unwind with a facial, massage or other treatment in the resort's superb spa. 

Trentham Monkey Forest

Part of the Trentham Estate and sitting alongside the famous gardens is this sanctuary for more than 200 Barbary macaques. The forest is open to the public from February until late November, though only on weekends in February, March and November.

Sudbury Hall and the National Trust Museum of Childhood

Half an hour to the south of Alton Towers is this beautiful 17th century country home and its enchanting museum about childhood. Your little ones can learn about children of the past, by pretending to be a chimney sweep for example, or a pupil at a Victorian school.

Halloween; October/November: Stay at the hotels within the Alton Towers Resort at the end of October for spooky but fun-filled short breaks. 

Christmas: Alton Towers is a special place to be during the festive period. Your children can visit Santa, tuck into special Christmas lunches, and access selected attractions.

New Year; December/January: Welcome in the New Year at Alton Towers. The resort offers special hotel packages that include dinner, entertainment and a hearty brunch with which to kick off the New Year (the diet had better wait until January 2).
