How to get around Brighton

Thanks to its compact city centre, it’s easy to get around Brighton by foot, and walking is positively encouraged along the seafront – nothing beats those gulps of bracing sea air. It’s easy to walk along the seafront from Brighton to Hove – in fact, the two merge before you even realise it.

In the other direction, a must-do is the historic Undercliff Walk that runs along the sea wall and alongside the crumbling white cliffs from Brighton Marina to the suburb of Saltdean for about 4.5 kilometres (3 miles).

You can also cycle along the path, as long as you give way to pedestrians. You can hire bicycles, or even a Californian beach-cruiser-style bike, from Brighton Beach Bike Hire. There are also city bike tours you can join.

London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is on the same rail line as Brighton, so there are frequent train services, including the Gatwick Express trains for an even quicker transfer into Brighton.

Gatwick Express trains leave every 30 minutes and take approximately half an hour to get to the seaside. There are also regular rail connections from London Victoria and London Bridge (about a one-hour journey to Brighton) and from St Pancras International (about one hour 30 minutes away), which connects with the Eurostar.
