Hotels in Skegness

With its award-winning clean sandy beaches and oodles of fun activities on offer, Skegness is the ideal holiday destination for families, especially if you’ve got young children. Its historic pier features ten-pin bowling, a laser game centre, a casino and the Captain Kids Adventure World indoor play area. Alternatively, you could simply take a stroll along the deck and enjoy the bracing sea breeze.

The seafront is lined with mid-range hotels and cheap guesthouses, so you can treat yourself to a Full English and be on the sand in minutes to bag your deckchair for the day.

For animal lovers, there’s a whole host of attractions on offer. Near the Clock Tower is the Treasure Island-themed Aquarium which gets you up close and personal with sharks and bat rays. There’s also a collection of creepy critters – tarantulas, scorpions, millipedes and even rats – waiting in its ‘storeroom’, a definite highlight for intrepid visitors. Finding a cheap hotel near to the Aquarium is easy, as plenty line South Parade, which runs along the park where the Aquarium is located.

If you haven’t managed to tire out the youngsters on the beach, try some of the white-knuckle activities available in and around Skegness. The Go Karting track has motorised karts and quad bikes to help release all that adrenaline, while on a muggy day, Skegness Water Leisure Park’s water-skiing and wakeboarding will help you cool off. At the north end of the seafront, X Site Skate Park is one of the UK’s biggest skating centres, with indoor and outdoor circuits and beginners’ sessions and equipment for hire.

To get away from all the hubbub for a quieter day out, a few miles south of Skegness is the Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve. This tranquil expanse of coastal marshland dunes and fens is home to hundreds of shorebirds and other local flora and fauna. Run by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and open year-round, the reserve has a network of nature trails with self-guided walks and a visitor centre with a cafe.

Alternatively, about half an hour inland is Tattershall Castle. Run by the National Trust, this well-preserved 14th-century moated castle gives superb views over the fens from its battlements. In the summer months, you can travel back in time on a history re-enactment day, watch a live Shakespeare production or even tuck into a teddy bear’s picnic.

Skegness has a mouth-watering selection of places to eat, both in town and in the nearby countryside. From formal a la carte hotel restaurants to gut-busting burger bars, steakhouses, fish and chip shops, Italian bistros and Indian takeaways, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Most of the cafés and restaurants are on the seafront or in the town centre, but you can also find some excellent country pubs nearby serving home-cooked local dishes and a selection of Lincolnshire’s finest real ales.
